What is Healing ?

Healing has been a common word thrown around in the spiritual community but what is it really and how do we actually do it ?

Life isn't easy. Unfortunately no soul will leave the human experience without going though any sort of emotional pain. And there are certain traumatic events that happen to us that do leave scars on our hearts. And instead of us getting the right treatment for our scars, we quickly patch them up. No matter how deep the wound is. We don't clean it, disinfect it, put the correct bandage on it. We ignore it, no matter how much it hurts. No matter how much blood gushes out here and then. This analogy is meant to show a picture of how much emotional pain holds us back in life. Just like how a physical injury would slow us down. Imagine an athlete playing a sport on a broken foot ? It would just make the pain worse and prolong the athlete from recovering.

So, with that being said.. how do we get the right equipment to heal our emotional wounds ? As someone who suffered with many mental health problems in childhood and even more in high school. I've learned there's many different ways to heal. Firstly, talking about your pain to someone you trust and more importantly a therapist or counselor. Now this is tricky because it's not just about venting but who you vent to. Because their feedback plays a part in the process as well. As long as it is a wise individual who can be a compassionate listener is what matters. Keeping your pain all inside can only make you feel more alone and frustrated. And you are at greater risk for reacting irrationally due to all the heartache you are carrying. I remember the first time I opened up to a counselor in school after a panic attack. Of course it was very uncomfortable at first but towards the end I felt lighter. As if I didn't have to carry everything on my own anymore. I could talk about my wounds and acknowledge the trauma I have been through but still be okay. I was a survivor. My wounds didn't define me.

The following steps for healing involve creating a daily or weekly self care practice. That can literally be anything that gives you joy and makes you feel at ease. It could be watching a great show, therapy, journaling, going for a walk, meditating, etc. These are important because healing eventually becomes a lifestyle. When we get a physical injury, you don't just let the doctor patch you up real quick and leave. Depending on how bad the injury is, you have to come back and check in. This is to see your progress.

Once you have incorporated those steps, it's important to focus on what you really want in your life. How do you want to feel most days ? What type of job could you see yourself doing that is most fulfilling ? What type of people do you want in your energy ? But what if you don't know these things yet ? What if you still feel lost ?

A great author named Elizabeth Gilbert stated, "Just follow your curiosity"

For me, this quote has helped me tremendously. My personal passions are helping people, tarot, film and writing. And I would have never found those if I wasn't curious about it in the first place. Tarot has changed my life for the better. Learning about my gifts and helping people navigate life with them has been eye opening to me. As I'm still growing my spiritual business, I've realized that I have other things that I want to do as well. And this has helped me heal also. Knowing that I am more than the bad things that happened to me. Having a vision for my future and doing the best practical steps to get there is what I feel has helped me push forward.

Healing never ends. And it's not about being perfect. It's about self love and striving for something bigger. I hope this blog encouraged you to be kinder to yourself and have faith in better days ahead. I haven't really written many blogs on my website but I want to do this more often. This topic came to mind as I've been reflecting on my life and what I want to do in my late 20's as I'm turning 25 soon in August. It's been a great year of growth for me and I wish you all the same

Sending love and light to you all xoxoxo
